CORROSION
19?? - 1998

On March 3, 1998 General Electric Company said that it would cut about 1,200 jobs in a revamping of its
GE Power Systems subsidiary, which makes turbines and other power-plant equipment. The cuts, which
amount to 5 percent of the unit's work force, are expected to take place early next year. G.E. plans to contract
with other companies to manufacture steam turbine parts from its plant in Schenectady, N.Y., eliminating about
475 jobs. In addition, G.E. will move its sales and services operations from there to Atlanta, which will affect
450 employees. G.E. also announced plans to close a steam turbine factory in  Mass., which will eliminate up to
600 jobs. GE Power Systems has 24,000 workers.

Not sure if this steam plant clsoed as a result of GE settling a suit thatt alleged it dumped over 3,000 gallons of waste
into the beautiful river in backof the building.  GE agreed to pay $325k to the state.
